TRAINS, TRAINS & MORE TRAINS

For train buffs Alma, Wisconsin is one of the best viewing locations along the Mississippi River for the Burlington Northern Sante Fe line.  Lock & Dam #4 bridge over the railroad tracks is a favorite viewing spot in Alma.

But the views from the upper porches of the BLUE DOOR Inn are spectacular with a clear view of trains heading north or south backed by the Mississippi River.   We have train photographers book Suite 3 each year to capture the views.  CAUTION: You will hear trains but we provide ear plugs.

RIVERBOATS ON THE

Enjoy a close up experience watching a riverboat pass through Alma's Lock #4.  Riverboat season is July through October with several boats weekly.  Hear the calliope play.  Great views from the BLUE DOOR Inn's upper porch too!

KAYAK OR CANOE, PADDLING IS GREAT

You can't beat the Alma area for great paddling opportunities.  Mississippi River backwaters, national canoe trails, sand islands in the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge ... all make for a perfect experience.

Staff of the BLUE DOOR Inn can help you with local canoe trails and paddling spots.  Rent equipment at nearby Merrick State Park or choose a guided paddle trip from Broken Paddle.

GUEST COMMENTS & REVIEWS
Blue Door Inn offers "a sense of history settling around guests as solidly as their 1853 rock walls".   Midwest Living Magazine

"Great inn, great innkeeper!"

“If you’re into historical venues - this place is right up your alley. It’s been completely renovated but Katherine has left all of the historical charm intact. From exposed brick to claw foot tubs it’s straight out of an HGTV show. The outdoor space is beautiful with multiple decks and bonfire pit. It is also a short walk away from amazing local shops, food, and entertainment. I’ll definitely be back!”

"The most beautiful place in Wisconsin....So much history....So much character....So relaxing.....I wish I could have stayed forever....Kathy has done the most precious thing by restoring the Blue Door Inn....Thank You Kathy!!!!"

"Best quiche I ever had!"

“This has to be the best BnB that we have stayed in! Very comfortable, beautifully decorated, everything a traveler would want and more! We had our choice of suite and each one was special in its own way! Katherine made us the most fabulous breakfast - all showcasing the local farm to table ingredients. The building has a very interesting past which adds to the charm! If you don't stay here, you have missed out on a very special experience!! ”

"I recommend the Blue Door Inn. By far the best place to stay in Alma, Wi. I just stayed there and an amazing transformation of one of the oldest buildings in Alma. Very quaint with lots of antiques. I will definitely return. Thanks Kathy!"
